Special Announcement: Applications Now Being Accepted for New Federal Tuition Assistance Program!

The Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor (PICCC Inc.) and the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation (CPWDC) have partnered to enhance the technical skills of the workforce in Central Pennsylvania. A special Federal grant was made available to provide tuition assistance to approximately 200 eligible residents of Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union Counties. The funding is available through special Federal grant that was designed to address skill shortages in professional level STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math occupations). The demand for skilled workers in STEM occupations is closely linked to global competitiveness.

STEM OCCUPATIONS LIST

Although STEM occupations are available to individuals with all educational levels, this project is focused on training and developing workers by providing tuition assistance for advanced credentials. (Primarily Bachelor's degrees, Master's degrees or above and/or specialized certifications or credentials required by employers. In certain cases, specialized Associate's Degrees MAY be considered.)

Examples of STEM Occupations Include:

  • Nursing — Registered Nurse, Nurse Specialist

  • Allied Health — Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Medical Lab Technology

  • Engineering — Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical

  • Information Technology (IT) — Network Administrator, Programmer, Software Engineer, Systems Analyst

  • Management — Engineering Manager, Health Services Manager

  • Other — Other STEM-related occupations for which H1B visas have been awarded

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for a scholarship, you must reside in the Central Pennsylvania region: Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties.

Eligibility Requirements (must fall within one of the following categories):

  • Long-term unemployed (27 or more weeks), available to work, and able to provide documentation of status OR

  • Lost a job during the recession (Jan 1, 2008 and forward) and have exhausted unemployment benefits OR

  • Have not yet reconnected to a job with comparable responsibility and pay (underemployment) OR

  • Working one or more part-time job(s) and want a full-time job (Note: This refers to individuals who want to work full time, but could not find a full time job and accepted part-time work) OR

  • Have become discouraged and stopped looking for a job
